The Adele Chardonnay comes from a 10-acre block in the well-known Vine Hill Road region of Russian River, source of some of the best Chardonnay produced in California. It is fermented two-thirds in new and used French Oak barrels, while the rest is fermented in stainless steel to maintain the bright freshness of the fruit. During its 8 month elevage, the wine sees some batonnage, adding richness and texture. The result is a full-bodied but not overblown crowd-pleaser.

There is a medium(-) intensity of flavors similar to the nose. The vanilla and pineapple are dominant with a hint of tangerine. The finish is clean with a medium length of lingering pineapple. 2014 Aviary Chardonnay

Aviary-ChardonnayThe 2014 vintage was a truly remarkable year for grape growing in Napa Valley. We had a warmer spring followed by a beautiful warm summer and very pleasant fall. It was a stark contrast to the challenges of recent vintages. No frost, no rain, no hail, no long stretches of high heat. The consistent temperatures allowed the grapes to develop slowly and evenly, encouraging a rich crop of fully mature grapes. It was a classic growing season with great quality and large quantity.

From the Wine Maker – “Our 2014 Aviary Chardonnay is well-balanced with smooth creamyness and bright acid. Light aromas of pear, vanilla, tropical fruit, and notes of oak . The palate is smooth with flavors of fresh apricot, tropical fruits, and toasted oak. The rounded, creamy finish will stay with you long after the glass is empty.”

This Chardonnay is an excellent accompaniment for fish, poultry and lightly sauced entrees. Semi-hard cheeses like Fontina, Jarlsberg, Swiss or Gouda.

The wine is deliciously apple-fresh with crisp acidity and a smooth finish.

From the Wine Maker – “Golden yellow with green highlights, offering an aromatic bouquet of white flowers. Powerful and rounded with good length.”

2014 Antica Chardonnay

Antica-Chardonnay

The winery is located within Napa Valley’s Atlas Peak Appellation, aptly named after Atlas Peak Mountain, which locals in-the-know also call the Blue Mountain. It’s the highest point in the region rising 2,663 feet above the valley floor. Located in Napa’s eastern hills, the peak juts out of the Vaca Range which separates Napa from the Sacramento valleys. When Piero first laid his eyes on this land, it was love at first sight. Remote, rugged, and drop-dead gorgeous, he knew that the land had the potential to make world-class wines. But not everyone was convinced. The appellation can be demanding with its high elevation, thin soils, and rocky outcrops. Yet those who see beyond its challenges are rewarded with a mountain-influenced climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers.

Temperatures on the mountain are typically 10 to 15 degrees F cooler than the valley floor, and since the appellation is generally above the fog line, while it can be gray and overcast in the valley below, Atlas Peak is sunny. Yet night-time temperatures drop making it a perfect combination for growing grapes with good sugars and acid. And what that means in the end is a bottle of wine that shows off its lush fruit flavors without being flabby.

From the Wine Maker – “The elegance of the Antica Napa Valley 2014 Chardonnay is obvious in its crisp, orange blossom, fresh pear, mineral-laced, medium bodied style. This wine has superb aromatic presence with impressive purity of fruit. This is a lovely, delicately oaked, flavorful Chardonnay.”

Classics include cracked crab, lobster, shrimp and scallops prepared in a buttery, creamy sauce. A simple roast chicken. Butternut squash risotto is a brilliant choice. A bottle of Chardonnay will even last into the desert course. Try it with Key lime pie for a taste sensation.

talbott-chardonnay-kali-hartFrom the Wine Maker – “A pure fruit expression of our vineyard, Talbott Chardonnay, Kali Hart is lush and lively. Minimal winemaker influence allows Kali Hart Chardonnay to showcases the strength of Talbott’s estate vineyards. The rich, inviting nose shows bright tropical notes that continue on the palate, where refreshing flavors of pineapple and honeydew are complimented by refreshing acidity. A generous mid-palate leads to a long citrus and tropical fruit finish with hints of French oak and minerality. Kali Hart Chardonnay is named after Robb Talbott’s youngest daughter.”
