Verdicchio di Matelica is the lesser known of the two Verdicchio DOCGs located in central Italy’s Marches region. Unlike its neighbor Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, which is located close to the Adriatic Sea, this area is landlocked. It is also unique as its valley runs from east to west, rather than from north to south as it does in the rest of the Marches. The wine-producing zone is one tenth of the size of its counterpart, with around 740 acres under vine.
From the Wine Maker – “Dark straw yellow, with greenish reflections, crystal clear with a good consistency. On the nose this wine has notes of Golden apples and walnuts, juniper and jasmine. Nicely smooth and fresh on the palate, well poised alcoholic content and good body. Sapid walnut. Pairs well with seafood and especially with raw fish preparations such as sushi and is sublime with crudo, the Marche’s raw fish specialty.”
Perfect to drink as an aperitif or with salads, grilled chicken and seafood.
