2013 Jacob’s Creek Reserve Shiraz

jacobs-creek-reserve-shirazFrom the winemaker – “The nose shows lifted ripe blackberry, chocolate and clove aromas, enhanced by cedar and vanilla notes from the influence of oak. A rich, full-bodied palate showcases the classic varietal plum and forest berry flavors complimented by light vanilla and regional chocolate notes. The supple ripe tannins are typical of the Barossa Shiraz, culminating in a long, satisfying finish.”

This is a versatile companion to hard cheeses or hearty meat dishes such as braised lamb shanks or eye-fillet of beef.

This wine was given a 88 point rating by Wine Spectator.

2010 Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Ridge Shiraz

Thorn-Clarke has been growing grapes in the Barossa Valley for six generations and has recently moved into winemaking with considerable success. The “Shotfire” range bridges the gap between its entry-level and top-flight wines and consistently represents excellent value.

From the winemaker – “Deep red colour, with a lifted and intense nose of blackberry fruit, sweet spice and dark chocolate. The palate is very rich and flavoursome with blackberry and plum fruit. In addition to the primary fruit characters there is plenty of complexity in this wine with spice and earthy notes. There is heaps of mouth filling flavour complemented by chalky tannins. There is great length of fruit as well.”

Serve with  rack of lamb, leg of lamb and lamb chops, pork spare ribs. Hard, savory cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and Cheddar.

Rating:

This wine was given a 90 point rating by Wine Spectator.

2008 Thorn-Clarke Terra Barossa Shiraz

This wine is firm, wrapping its chewy tannins around a core of tobacco-accented cherry and spice flavors. Medium-body fruit jello candy, hollow mid-palate, shortish cocoa-chocolate fruity plum finish.

From the winemaker – “Deep red color. The wine is deep and rich smelling with dark fruits, plums and spice with some good oak. There is very rich fruit on the palate with plums, blackberry and sweet spice from the oak. The palate is vibrant and young with a flavorsome viscous mouthfeel which will develop complexity with time. There are some slightly chewy tannins which will soften with time and there is great length of fruit flavor.”

Amazing with a full range of fish, Calamari in tomato sauce, crab cakes, grilled fish like Halibut, Monkfish, Mahi mahi, Red Snapper, Salmon, Shark, Swordfish or Tilapia.
