2012 25 Lagunas Estate Grown Malbec

Centuries ago, in the Huanacache region of San Juan, there was a chain of 25 interconnected lagoons that were inhabited by the indigenous Huarpe tribes who traveled in small canoes called “Lagooners.” These lagoons have long since dried up, and in doing so changed the hard land into a renowned viticultural region. Finca Rewen, the winery that produces 25 Lagunas, has an estate vineyard located at 2,000-foot elevation, near the foothills of the Andes Mountains. San Juan is an arid wine region, known for having intense sun, and is ideal for producing warm climate varietals. It is practically uninhabited, with vast expanses of vineyards that take their irrigation from the crystal clean runoff of the nearby Andes.

From the Wine Maker – “The color is an intense red with violet hues. With aromas of Ripe red plum, red currants and strawberry. The palate shows raspberries, prunes and soft tannins with a medium length finish.”

This Melbec is best served with baked, barbecued, broiled or roasted chicken, Chicken Cacciatore, chicken in mushroom or red wine sauce, chicken marinated in herbs and grilled, Coq au vin. Hard cheeses like Asiago, Parmesan and Romano or semi-hard cheeses like Cheddar, Fontina, Gouda or Swiss.

Dark ruby-colored, it delivers a spicy, black cherry and black raspberry perfume. This is followed by a medium-bodied, easygoing wine with ample fruit and no hard edges.”

2011 Alamos Seleccion Malbec

Alamos-Seleccion-MalbecAlamos crafts quality wines from Argentina, offering the best of Mendoza’s high altitude vineyards at an incredible value. Alamos grapes are grown at the foothills of the Andes Mountains at elevations of 3,000 to 5,000 feet, where intense sunlight, cool evening temperatures and mineral-rich irrigation from mountain snowmelt translate to rich wines with intense flavor characteristics.

From the winemaker – “The pinnacle of our portfolio, the Alamos 2011 Selección Malbec has enticing ripe black fruit characteristics of plum and blackberry. Intense aromas of violet and dark berry jump right out of the glass and extend to the palate, where they are complemented by hints of brown spice and pepper from oak aging. 2011 Bodega Ruca Malen Yauquen Malbec Mendoza

Bodega-Ruca-Malen-Yauquen-Malbec-MendozaThe dream of Bodega Ruca Malen began in 1998 when Jean-Pierre Thibaud and Jacques Louis de Montalembert, in one of his many meetings, confessed the illusion of having his own winery in Mendoza, this paradise at the foot of the Andes. At that time, Jean-Pierre left the chairmanship of Bodegas Chandon Argentina after 10 years, while Jacques Louis had a long tradition in wine from its source in the area of Burgundy. Located in the Uco Valley, 1100 meters above sea level. Soil is sandy  loam, rocky with great drainage and very poor in organic matter. The  vines were planted in 2001 using a vertical trellising system with drip  irrigation, the average yield totaling 10 tons/hectare.

From the Wine Maker – “Nearly black in color, this Malbec has aromas of ripe black cherries,  plums, and violet flowers with subtle notes of vanilla and caramel.  Jammy, packed with fresh red fruit and a pleasant acidity that balances  nicely with the firm tannins. The finish is round and generous with a  touch of sweet oak.”

Enhances grilled red meats, tomato-based pasta dishes, empanadas and rice dishes.
