2014 Villa Antinori Scalabrone

The Guado al Tasso estate is located approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the southwest of Florence near Bolgheri, a medieval hamlet in the upper Maremma area of the Tuscan coast. The estate extends for some 2500 acres (1000 hectares) from the Tyrrhenian sea to the inland hills and includes, in addition to 750 acres (300 hectares) of vineyards, olive groves and fields of wheat, corn, and sunflowers. The wine takes its name from Scalabrone, a bandit who lived in the area in the early 19th century, a sort of local Robin Hood who attacked ships in the port and canal of Bolgheri.

From the Wine Maker – “A brilliant, light, peony pink in color, the wine shows rich and intense aromas of fruit (cherries and raspberries) an flowers. The palate is fresh and balanced with a long and fruity aftertaste.”

Great with a full range of foods, dry Rosé is one of the most versatile wines in the world for pairing. Think salmon, shellfish, grilled meats, Mediterranean, Asian, cheese & crackers and more…

2012 Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre

This is one of the wines that has made Allegrini famous throughout the world. The vineyard surrounds Villa della Torre, a splendid masterpiece of Renaissance architecture now owned by the family, and produces a full-bodied red wine that has an ageing potential of at least ten years. The blend is the historic combination of Corvina and Rondinella with the addition of a small quantity of Sangiovese. A small percentage of the harvested grapes are left to dry out until December and then added to the previously vinified fresh grapes. The result is a velvety, well-balanced red wine that proffers mature, pulpy fruit.

From the Wine Maker – “Aromas of dried earth, dried raspberry and blueberry. Full body, chewy tannins and a fresh, bright finish. Lively and delicious.”

Easily pairs with various Italian dishes, above all risottos, especially those flavored with saffron, porcini mushrooms and pork; classic dishes such as pasta with amatriciana and carbonara sauces, baked lasagna, gnocchi with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts; grilled meats and roasts. This wine also excels when matched with Parma ham and fine-cured zibello pork loin, as well as medium-matured cheeses, especially parmigiano reggiano, pecorino and Monte Veronese.

2012 William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

With roots deeply anchored in the Napa Valley, William Hill Estate crafts luxury Chardonnay and Bordeaux varietal wines from the undiscovered vineyards of California’s most celebrated regions. Beginning with William Hill Estate’s 140-acre benchland vineyard near the Silverado Trail, Winemaker Mark Williams turns to the hidden corners of southern Napa, the North Coast and the Central Coast to create a unique collection of rich, expressive wines.

Varietal Content: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Petite Sirah, 1.5% Cabernet Franc

From the winemaker – “Dark and rich, our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas and flavors of blackberry and ripe plum, with hints of clove and earthiness. Notes of brown spice and vanilla enhance the palate for a lusciously full mouthfeel, culminating in a long finish.”

Pairs well with cornish game hens, duck or turkey prepared in rich, hearty or heavy sauces or hard cheeses like Parmigiano or Romano and firm cheeses like Cheddar.

2013 Zin 91 Old Vine Zinfandel

This great Zin is dry and spicy, with blackberry, currant, herb and coffee flavors that finish with a hint of raisins.

From the Wine Maker – “The aromas are classic of an old vine Zinfandel: spicy and jammy. Notes of black pepper, raspberry, and boysenberry lead to hints of cinnamon, sandalwood, and clove to create the bouquet. On the palate, the wine carries over the spicy notes, as well as black cherry and cassis flavors. The oak-aging gives it a supple and velvety texture. Fruit-forward with balanced acidity and alcohol.”

Pairs well with an array of dishes, from vegetable lasagna to hearty beef stews. Also excellent with roasted and grilled meats.

2009 Avalon Merlot

Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure, this Merlot is made from 88% Merlot, 6% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Petite Verdot.

From the winemaker – “Our 2009 Merlot shows its depth with a rich garnet color. Aromas of juicy boysenberries and cherry pie fill the glass. Crème brulee and brown sugar notes from oak aging compliment the ripe berry aromas. Mountain fruit characteristics show in the intensity of the fruit flavors. The entry enjoys sweet notes of raspberry and cherry with a finish of jammy boysenberry preserves. The oak notes of chocolate and wood smoke pair with and compliment the rich fruit layers. Refined tannins support this balanced wine that doesn’t show the typical alcohol component found in many Merlots. As the wine develops in the glass, one may enjoy ongoing berry notes, a touch of allspice evolving in the middle, while the wine continues to lengthen on the finish. Smooth, silky and profound berry flavors confirm this wine’s birthplace as Napa Valley.”

This vintage pairs nicely with rack or leg of lamb, lamb chops, roast pork, pork chops or tenderloin, veal with heartier vegetable and/or bean sauces or mushroom and/or wine sauces. Cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and other hard cheeses as well as cheddar and other savory, firm cheeses.

From the Wine Maker – Lightly baked and sweet on the nose, which draws you in. The  palate is brighter and more austere, with sheer, slightly bland cherry  and raspberry flavors. Fresh, clean and bouncy on the finish. With its fruits are produced in a long maceration, a resounding came after growing up in oak, refines its deep ruby-red colors and aromas full of memories gives familiars in the framework of the strong personality characteristic.”

2012 25 Lagunas Estate Grown Malbec

Centuries ago, in the Huanacache region of San Juan, there was a chain of 25 interconnected lagoons that were inhabited by the indigenous Huarpe tribes who traveled in small canoes called “Lagooners.” These lagoons have long since dried up, and in doing so changed the hard land into a renowned viticultural region. Finca Rewen, the winery that produces 25 Lagunas, has an estate vineyard located at 2,000-foot elevation, near the foothills of the Andes Mountains. San Juan is an arid wine region, known for having intense sun, and is ideal for producing warm climate varietals. It is practically uninhabited, with vast expanses of vineyards that take their irrigation from the crystal clean runoff of the nearby Andes.

From the Wine Maker – “The color is an intense red with violet hues. With aromas of Ripe red plum, red currants and strawberry. The palate shows raspberries, prunes and soft tannins with a medium length finish.”

This Melbec is best served with baked, barbecued, broiled or roasted chicken, Chicken Cacciatore, chicken in mushroom or red wine sauce, chicken marinated in herbs and grilled, Coq au vin. Hard cheeses like Asiago, Parmesan and Romano or semi-hard cheeses like Cheddar, Fontina, Gouda or Swiss.
