2010 Cannonball Sonoma County Chardonnay

Cannonball-Sonoma-County-ChardonnayOur goal is to deliver balance in our Chardonnay. Cannonball 2010 Chardonnay is a superlative blend of 50% French Oak and 50% stainless steel fermentation with 85% malolactic fermentation. The wine offers a sophisticated nose of lemon custard, peaches, and a hint of pie crust. On the palate, stone fruit and tropical notes like pineapple come into the mix — even a hint of Granny Smith apple and vanilla bean on the finish. We hope when you taste the 2010 Cannonball Chardonnay it brings a smile to your face!

From the Wine Maker – “We’ve crafted a Chardonnay that we believe offers something a little different — balance. A wine with oak and creaminess, but isn’t a wood/butter bomb. We want bold fruit, not fruit candy. We found the perfect blend that made everyone smile. We hope you enjoy our 2010 Chardonnay — we think it’s Chardonnay You Can Believe In.”

This Chardonnay is an excellent accompaniment for fish, poultry and lightly sauced entrees. Semi-hard cheeses like Fontina, Jarlsberg, Swiss or Gouda.

2013 Alamos Malbec

Alamos-MalbecThis wine has a full structure and a long, lingering finish. It has a spice and vanilla oak characteristic to it with floral notes which makes it a very drinkable wine now, or for years to come.

From the winemaker – “A classically Argentine wine, our Alamos Malbec blends the deeply concentrated plum flavors of the country’s signature variety – Malbec – with small portions of Syrah and Bonarda to add dark cherry and blackberry flavors. Well-integrated hints of brown spice and vanilla contribute layers of complexity.”

This wine pairs nicely with Chicken wings, barbecue, pate’s like chicken, duck or veal liver. It also goes with Hard cheeses like Asiago, Parmesan and Romano or semi-hard cheeses like Cheddar, Fontina, Gouda or Swiss.

2011 Gascon Reserva Malbec

Mendoza is a mountainous province at the foot of the Andes Mountains in Cuyo, a region along the western edge of Argentina. Mendoza, regarded as the most important wine-producing province in Argentina, makes more than 80 percent of Argentinean wine. Mendoza’s high valleys, each at a different elevation and with a different temperature profile, sustain a multitude of microclimates. The high altitude allows for intense sunlight that produces fruit with thicker skins. This delivers extraordinary color, body, aroma and structure, and creates unique flavor and aromatic expressions in the finished wine

From the Wine Maker – “Our 2011 Reserve Malbec has distinctive flavors of dark blackberry with integrated brown spice and oak. Flavors of plum and black cherry meld with hints of chocolate and oak to add complexity to this wine, complementing the round tannins and full structure.”

Enjoy with baked, barbecued, broiled or roasted chicken, Chicken Cacciatore, chicken in mushroom or red wine sauce, chicken marinated in herbs and grilled, Coq au vin. Hard cheeses like Asiago, Parmesan and Romano or semi-hard cheeses like Cheddar, Fontina, Gouda or Swiss.

2008 Screenplay Napa Valley Red Wine

With vineyards spanning the Howell Mountain, Saint Helena, Yountville, Oak Knoll and Wooden Valley appellations, this first vintage is a must try. Screenplay is a blend of 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 17% Syrah, 11% Malbec,  6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Viognier sourced from Trent Moffet’s favorite, family owned vineyards in the Napa Valley none of which exceed 3.25 acres.  Only 483 cases produced of Act 1 of this Screenplay. It’s delicious. Full-bodied, rich on the palate with ripe black fruit, a smooth creamy texture, good acidity, and well-integrated oak.

From the winemaker – “The Screenplay Red Wine offers generous fruit with amazing complexity of flavors, delivering rich, concentrated, supple layers of currants, blackberry, black cherry, spice and mocha, with a subtle hint of earth.

Foods with complex flavors match the complexity of red blends. Pepper steak, well seasoned beef or lamb, rich stews, pâtés and strong cheeses such as blue cheese and stilton, are great pairings.

2007 St. Clement Merlot

Dense ruby-red in color, this wine explodes with fruit aromas of ripe black plum and black cherry together with hints of coffee and vanilla.

From the winemaker – “This Merlot opens with aromas of ripe raspberry and cassis. The palate follows through with bright flavors of cranberry and cherry and underlying clove with a smoky, oak finish. The grapes for this Merlot were fermented in a combination of open and closed top fermenters to maximize concentration and extraction in the final blend. Each lot was aged separately in 100 percent French oak (40 percent new) for 19 months before blending and bottling.”

This vintage should be served with soups that contain hearty vegetable stews, chicken stock with meats, hearty meat-based stews or meat stock with vegetables. Desserts, anything with chocolate!

2009 Coho Headwaters Red Wine

Sometimes adversity has a way of turning a difficult situation into something extremely positive. The story of COHO Headwaters certainly is an example of that “lemons into lemonade” thing you always hear about. For the first three vintages COHO made a delicious 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine entirely from fruit grown in the Coombsville section of Napa Valley, just east of downtown Napa.

In the middle of harvest in 2005 the warehouse where our finished wines were stored was set on fire. Sadly we lost our entire inventory and were effectively out of business for a year until we could bring the wines safely aging in barrel at our winemaking facility to market. To complicate the situation, the Michael Black Vineyard, which normally produces very small amounts of Merlot fruit, doubled its output due to the extremely long, cool growing season. Not wishing to produce all that wine into a single vineyard Merlot, the decision was made to blend a goodly portion of the Merlot fruit with several tons of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that friends had given us (the generosity of the wine industry) into a new red blend that we named Headwaters.

Starting with the 2006 vintage, the Headwaters blend transitioned to a Coombsville area Cabernet Sauvignon dominated wine with about 30-35% Merlot, and seasoned with Petit Verdot. The fruit sources remain predominately from Coombsville, with the likeliness that future vintages will incorporate some fruit from select Napa Valley appellations and introduce other Bordeaux varietals into the blend.

From the winemaker – “Coho Headwaters Napa Valley Red Wine is a “Bordeaux blend” of three varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (66%); Merlot (32%); and 2% Petite Verdot. Most of the source vineyards for this wine are in the “Coombsville” area of the Napa Valley. This “terroir” provides deep and opaque red color, supple red cherry/wild berry and cassis fruit, and toasty oak on the nose, which then continues to deliver the same fruit tones and integrated oak nuances, with great complexity of flavors and power on the palate. The supple tannins offer a silky fine-grained texture to the wine and a lingering, fruit-forward finish.”

Best served with panna cotta & fresh fruit; summer fruit with turbinado sugar; simple cookies such as langue de chat, or almond biscotti.

2009 C&T Cellars Front Porch Merlot

The Merlot vineyard is located in the Oak Knoll Appellation of the Napa Valley, its deep rich soils allow for great healthy vines with even crop production. The Cabernet in this bottling comes from the St. Helena Appellation, this rocky vineyard is one of the harder working sites, it gives very small berried clusters with great concentration. The final component is the Malbec from Wooden Valley in Napa Country.

From the winemaker – Nice aromas of plum, cheery, spice and a hint of smoky earth. The flavors on the pallet follow suit. The fruit has a sold rich core with very well-balanced acidity to lengthen the enjoyment of the wine. Still a young wine that opens nicely over the course of a few hours.”

This wine pairs nicely with roast pork, pork chops, pork tenderloin, ham or mild sausage. Mild, firm cheeses like Swiss or Gouda.  Hard cheeses like Parmigiano or Romano and savory cheese like Cheddar.

2009 Milton Park Shiraz

Milton Park is a label from Barossa family producers Thorn Clarke. Fruit sourced is from a number of different South Australian vineyards including premium Barossa sites.

From the Wine Maker – “Aged for 12 months in American oak barrels. Deep red color. The wine is deep and rich smelling with dark fruits, plums and spice with some good oak. There is very rich fruit on the palate with plums, blackberry and sweet spice from the oak. The palate is vibrant and young with a flavorsome viscous mouthfeel which will develop complexity with time. There are some slightly chewy tannins which will soften with time and there is great length of fruit flavor.”

Serve with rack of lamb, leg of lamb or lamb chops. Hard, savory cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and Cheddar.

2008 Taz Chardonnay

This is a moderately aromatic Chard with notes of toasty oak, butter, vanilla, a little pineapple and butterscotch. Dry, full-bodied, medium acidity, with flavors of ripe pear, and a slight touch of minerality and meyer lemon with some creaminess on the finish. The oak gives way on the nose after being open a few minutes and comes through more on the palate.

From the Wine Maker – “The TAZ Santa Barbara Chardonnay is 100 percent barrel fermented in French oak (19% new), and undergoes a partial malolactic fermentation. I like the wine to have nice viscosity and mid-palate weight, but my main goal is to preserve the natural acidity and tropical fruit that has put Santa Barbara County Chardonnay on the map. This wine opens with aromas of lemon chiffon, pineapple and toasted coconut. The wine is creamy, but balanced with a refreshing acidity and lengthy finish.”

This wine is excellent with pasta in light wine sauce like lemon-flavored olive oil or spicy Asian noodles. It also goes well with caesar or green salads with light to medium dressings.
