2014 Villa Antinori Toscana

This wine was first created and marketed by Marquis Niccolò Antinori, father of Piero Antinori, in 1928 and was the first Chianti intended as a long-lasting wine capable of improving with age. In 2001 Piero Antinori inaugurated a new phase for Villa Antinori, which became a Tuscan IGT produced from a selection of better grapes grown exclusively in the vineyards of the Antinori proprietary estates in Tuscany. The design of the label has remained as it was in 1928, with only minimal adjustments,  first in 1990 and then in 2001. This Italian gem is a great red blend of 55% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Syrah.

From the Wine Maker – “The wine is ruby-red in color with intense aromas of cherries, mint, and, particularly, chocolate. On the palate the wine is ample in body, supple and with velvety and soft tannins, long and savory.”

This wine is an excellent companion for fish and meat carpaccios, shellfish, spicy seafood, seafood pasta and soup dishes.

2008 Ménage à Trois Chardonnay

Notably spicy and floral, showing a touch of mint, with pear, melon and apple scents, turning simpler.

From the Wine Maker – “Each geographic partner in our Ménage à Trois Chardonnay contributes a distinctive quality: fresh citrus aromas from Monterey; lush tropical fruit flavors from Santa Barbara; and fine structure from Mendocino. We’d like to say it’s a Ménage made in heaven, but to be truthful, it was made in Napa Valley. (Hey, who’s splitting hairs?)

A great food wine, it will complement dishes like Halibut, Mahi Mahi, Monkfish, Red Snapper, Rock cod, Salmon, Sea Bass, Shark, Sole, Swordfish, Tilapia, Trout and Tuna sautéed, grilled, roasted or baked with or without sauces.

Rating:

This wine was given a 88 rating by Wine Enthusiast and a 85 point rating by Wine Spectator.

2009 Folie à Deux Ménage à Trois White Wine

2009 Ménage à Trois White WineThis wine is notably spicy and floral, showing a touch of mint, with pear, melon and apple scents, turning simpler.

From the winemaker – “The 2009 Ménage à Trois white is a trip to the islands without the worry of sunburn or bugs. It’s undeniably fruity and unabashedly easy. It’s meant to be quaffed, not analyzed. The White blend brings together citrus and tropical fruit flavors with crisp acidity. Dare we say it’s refreshing? With food or without, alone or with two companions, this is one of the most exhilarating experiences imaginable.”

This wine could be enjoyed when eating Polenta with butter and cheese, steamed rice and vegetables, or a seafood risotto.
