2009 Montebuena Rioja

The 2009 Montebuena is 100% Tempranillo. Dark ruby-colored, it offers an appealing perfume of spice box, leather, tobacco, and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with ripe fruit, has outstanding concentration, and impeccable balance.

From the winemaker – “Brilliant deep ruby-red color, fruity aromas. Montebuena Red has a spicy vanilla bouquet and is smooth and fruity in the mouth with some well-integrated secondary nuances, full-flavored and a persistent pleasant finish.”

Amazing with a full range of fish, Calamari in tomato sauce, crab cakes, grilled fish like Halibut, Monkfish, Mahi mahi, Red Snapper, Salmon, Shark, Swordfish or Tilapia.

2007 Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva Tenute Marchese

Antinori-Chianti-Classico-Riserva-Tenute-MarcheseWine SpectatorBlack cherry and black currant fruit paves the way in this red, with spice and leather accents adding depth. Bright and solid, yet remains elegant, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and spice. Best from 2013 through 2020.”

From the Wine Maker – “An intense ruby-red with aromas of blackberries and cherries under spirits along with sensation of spice and tobacco from the careful aging in barrel. On the palate the wine is very solid with notes of vanilla and chocolate, supple and soft in its tannins and accompanied by the vibrant acidity which characterizes the Sangiovese grape as a variety. The complexity and length on the finish are excellent.”

This Chianti should be served with meat cannelloni, meat/tomato sauce gnocchi, meat or vegetable lasagna, pepperoni/sausage pizza, meat, spinach or cheese filled ravioli in meat or tomato sauce.

2009 Masciarelli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

From the Wine Maker – “Over the past ten years the Masciarelli Wine Estate has been the most cutting edge producer in the most cutting edge region of Italy.  In Italy Azienda Agricola Masciarelli is famous as Italy’s 2004 Winery of the Year, just on the heels of Gianni Masciarelli’s Winemaker of the Year honors in 2003.  Today Masciarelli is the largest organically farmed Estate in Italy, 1000 prime acres of Abruzzo vineyards from the cool, mountain Villa Gemma and Marina Cvetic vineyards at San Martino, to the warm, low-lying Valori and Iskra vineyards in Teramo and in Italy’s newest DOCG, Contraguerra.  We deeply mourn Gianni Masciarelli’s passing, a mere 52 years with us.  Gianni has worked tirelessly to secure his vineyards, his vision, and his legacy as the greatest winemaker of his generation.  We offer you a bit of that legacy, a genuine piece of Italian vinous art pure and true. A nice marriage of old and new world styles. It has a few characteristics that make it a bit dirty and interesting in an old world way, but enough fruit to appeal to fans of new world wines. It has a slightly smoky and dusty nose with dark berries and leather. There is very good concentration in the palate. Cherries, blackberries and chocolate all have a strong presence. There is a lot of fruit, but the fruit is a touch young tasting—keeping this wine very dry. It has a medium length finish with smooth tannins and a hint of chocolate. Drink with pizza, pasta or burgers while taking a load off with good friends.”
