2014 Maison Louis Latour Montagny 1er Cru

maison-louis-latour-montagny-1er-cruThe appellation of Montagny lies approximately 30 kilometres to the south of Beaune in the rolling folds and hills of the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise. Montagny is a 100% white wine appellation originating solely from Chardonnay grapes and giving a fresh white wine that is an uncomplicated representation of its parent grape variety. The high quality of the vines is a direct consequence of their limestone bedrock and admirably oriented slopes. The vineyard of « La Grande Roche » is quite high up on the hillsides, catching plenty of sunshine which aids the great concentration of flavours in the grapes.

From the Wine Maker – “Of a bright, light golden color, our Montagny 1er Cru “La Grande Roche” 2014 has a complex nose with peach aromas and hints of muscat. Ample and floral in the mouth, it reveals iodine and peppery notes. A lot of freshness on the finish.”

Best with asparagus – rabbit galantine – trout with almonds – sheeps cheese.

2014 Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC Campirosa

cerasuolo-dabruzzo-doc-campirosaIn more than 120 years of company’s history the Illuminati vineyards have grown from 15 to 130 hectares in size in Controguerra, a special wine-producing area between the Gran Sasso mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Dino Illuminati is a long-standing icon and advocate for this unique piece of land and was the driving force behind the DOC recognition of this part of Abruzzo.

From the winemaker – “‘Campirosa’ (literally ‘Pink Fields’) is a tasty rose’ made with 100% Montepulciano grapes. Montepulciano is the main red grape variety of the region and its rose’ version is called Cerasuolo (meaning ‘cherry’ in Italian) because of its attractive cherry-like color. Pretty floral and berry aromas follow through to the palate. Dry and fresh with a good finish. Served well chilled it will pair beautifully with appetizers, seafood dishes, grilled vegetables and grilled poultry.

2013 Beringer Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley

Beringer-Sauvignon-Blanc-Napa-Valley

Beringer’s Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a quintessential expression of this beautiful varietal and the depth of flavors it can exhibit. Winemaker Laurie Hook chooses complementary lots from AVAs up and down the Valley to craft a wine that is a hallmark expression of Napa Valley terroir. Laurie sent all the fruit directly to the press, to protect the varietal’s delicate aromas and flavors. To maintain the unique qualities each vineyard can display. The majority of the wine was cold-fermented, to preserve the fresh, bright fruit and acidity that this varietal generously offers. A small portion of the blend was aged in seasoned French barrels for six months, to underscore the sweet fruit and spice components.

From the winemaker – “The 2013 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is an enticing wine with aromas of bright citrus zest, gooseberry and notes of white flowers. Flavors of lemon and tangerine zest are complemented by a bright acidity and round mouthfeel.”

This Sauvignon Blanc is delicious with many vegetarian dishes. Cheeses such as chevre and other fresh cheeses, Brie and other semi-soft cheeses, Swiss, Gouda and other mild, firm cheeses.

2009 Chalone Vineyard Chardonnay

While the grapes for Chalone Vineyard Estate come from their high mountain estate, the grapes for the Monterey County wines come from distinct vineyards in the 75-mile long Salinas Valley, which begins in Monterey Bay and runs southeastward. Ancient volcanoes, active faults and tectonic plate movement created the Santa Lucia and Gavilan Mountain ranges, which flank the valley. The mountains form a wind tunnel, drawing cool ocean breezes off the Pacific Ocean into the valley. The cool air causes the vines to shut down and delays ripening of the grapes, leading to a longer growing season and hang time that results in intense fruit flavors. Soils in the valley are varied and include compositions of gravelly loam, sand, decomposed granite and limestone. This combination of well-drained soils, early morning fog, warm afternoon sun and cool ocean air make the region ideal.

From the Wine Maker – “In our Chardonnay, bright, fruit-focused flavors keep cadence with sweet essence of oak. Baked pear, Braeburn apple and sweet tangerine are accented by wafts of floral and nutmeg. Well-balanced, the fruit remains bright and crisp, complemented by just enough oak to lend structure and complexity.”

This wine’s versatility makes it pleasant for sipping as well as a perfect complement to sautéed scallops or stuffed chicken breast.

2013 Martin Ray Chardonnay

Martin-Ray-ChardonnayWe picked the grapes at the peak of ripeness between September 8th and October 14th. We gently pressed the fruit, cold-settled the juice for two days, and then racked it to French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. We then fermented it using indigenous yeast. The wine has a moderate oak influence – it underwent full malolactic fermentation, which added a rich, creamy mouthfeel, yet maintained some of the more delicate floral aromas.

From the Wine Maker – “Perfectly balanced aromas of baked apple, creamy vanilla yogurt, citrus, tropical toasted coconut and floral notes delight the nose and continue as flavors in the juicy, round mouth.”

Pair this rich, refreshing Chardonnay with light fish dishes, a variety of salads and mild cheeses.

2011 Be Riesling

be-rieslingRiesling is a white grape variety which originated in the Rhine region of Germany. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. It is used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet and sparkling white wines. Riesling wines are usually varietally pure and are seldom oaked. As of 2004, Riesling was estimated to be the world’s 20th most grown variety, an increasing trend, but in terms of importance for quality wines, it is usually included in the “top three” white wine varieties together with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

From the Wine Maker – “The tempo is set for excitement with tantalizing fruit that boasts a marvelously magnetic appeal. Once your palate is captured by this zest for life, it is complemented by bright floral notes and whispers of sweetness that linger like that perfect evening that still floods your daydreams with sly smiles.”

This wine is best served with a vast array of foods, but the wine pairs best with spiced foods like cajun barbecued shrimp, gumbo or pan-blackened fish, chicken with mole, salsa and tortilla soup.

2011 Murphy Goode The Fumé Sauvignon Blanc

Murphy-Goode-The-Fumé-Sauvignon-BlancThe 2011 Fumé was predominately fermented in stainless steel to retain the expression of bright citrus and tropical fruit aromatics while the balance was barrel fermented in French and American oak to increase the mouthfeel and develop lush flavors of white peach and honeydew melon. The Sémillon adds wonderful expressions of floral notes and adds nice texture.

From the winemaker – “Bright citrus and lush tropical fruit aromas. Flavors of white peach and honeydew. What’s not to love about this versatile Sauvignon Blanc, with its hint of Sémillon for floral notes and its touch of oak for that smoky, intriguing “fume” personality. From poolside aperitifs to your best friend’s wedding, from barbecued oysters on the beach to the BYOB Thai place around the corner, this go-to wine from California’s North Coast rises to every single occasion. Don’t leave home—or stay home—without it.”

This Sauvignon Blanc (“The Fumé”) pairs great with lots of food, such as shellfish and thai chicken, but it pairs just as well with you relaxing poolside.
