Mionetto Prosecco Brut D.o.c

Prosecco is unusual in the world as it is almost always used to produce the sparking wine of the same name from Italy’s Veneto region. The wines tend to feature a light orchard fruit tone, recalling white peaches and pears, with bright acidity and light body. Many versions of Prosecco have a touch of sugar that adds fullness to the wine though there is a movement towards producing drier wines, particularly under the Cartizze denomination.

From the winemaker – “The Mionetto Prosecco Brut D.o.c has an intense fruity bouquet with a hint of golden apples. It is very dry, fresh, light in body and well-balanced.”

This wine is perfect alone as an aperitif or as a delightful complement to appetizers such as prosciutto or mild cheeses. Excellent as a base for Bellinis and other sparkling wine cocktails.

2011 BackHouse Pinot Grigio

back-house-pinot-grigioIn 1994, Roy and Rachael Cecchetti purchased a two and a half-acre parcel in the Sonoma Valley, one mile east of the Plaza. On that parcel, situated next to the grand willow tree and the natural spring fed pond, was an old backhouse. Through some research of the property, it was discovered that the old backhouse was once home to vintners, writers, artists and those who craved the solitude and enjoyment of nature. Backhouse wines were created to bring these memories back to life for a new generation.

From the Wine Maker – “pale straw in color with complex flavors of fruits and herbs. Round and full, this wine can be enjoyed with a variety of foods such as salads and poultry dishes.”

Try with Shellfish like scallops, clams, mussels or raw oysters.  Also shrimp with any Thai or spicy Asian sauces.

2010 Umberto Cesari Colle Del Re Dry White Wine

With the 1987 vintage, Albana di Romagna became Italy’s first white D.O.C.G. wine. Very few wines met the new D.O.C.G. standards, but Umberto Cesari is ranked at the very top. Albana is named for the straw-yellow colored hair of Princess Albana, daughter of a Roman Emperor. Albana di Romagna can be made sweet or dry, still or Frizzante. The “Colle del Re” of Umberto Cesari is made in a dry, elegant style that is best enjoyed in its youth. This wine is from a single vineyard plot and is estate grown and bottled.

From the winemaker – “This wine is straw-colored with a delicate scent and an elegant, dry, fruity taste. The finish is smooth with a touch of almonds. Albana di Romagna is a very distinctive wine.

This wine goes well with seafood or poultry, as well as stuffed pastas in cream or butter sauces, such as Tortellini, Agnolotti or Cappelletti.
