Columbia Winery Red Blend

After a string of highly regarded Washington vintages, Winemaker Sean Hails created our Red Blend wine using fruit from across several recent years, selecting his favorite lots to showcase the art of blending. Our Red Blend wine is crafted with fruit sourced across the Columbia Valley, including Yakima Valley, Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke Slope and a small portion of Red Mountain. All together, the fruit from these prized AVAs results in a red blend wine that speaks Washington.

From the Wine Maker – “Columbia Winery Red Blend is primarily a blend of Merlot and Syrah. Sourced from Washington’s finest growing regions, the supple Red Blend wine has a solid, fruit-forward foundation of fresh blackberry, cassis and blueberry flavors, with hints of ripe raspberry and red cherry. Soft, approachable tannins are enhanced on the medium-bodied palate with Syrah’s notes of pepper and clove, with a mouth-filling texture. Notes of vanilla, toasted oak and brown spice linger on the Red Blend’s long finish.”

This wine goes well with BBQ Pork, Grilled Portabella Mushrooms, Gourmet Cheeses, Lasagna Florentine.

2012 Sheriff of Buena Vista Red

The story of our founder is as long as it is colorful. One of California’s first sheriffs, Agoston Haraszthy was elected the Sheriff of San Diego County in 1850. He built the first jail and served two exciting years before moving north to pursue “purple gold” and the perfect terroir for fine wines. He found it in Sonoma County where he established Buena Vista Winery in 1857. It is his legacy that inspired this wine and the work of sheriffs everywhere that we honor with its release.

From the Wine Maker – “The Sheriff of Buena Vista is deserving of its name. This bold Sonoma County Red Wine is an authoritative blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Merlot. Inspiring dark red fruit aromatics arrest the senses while rich raspberry, blackberry and semi-sweet chocolate flavors are deliciously unleashed on the palate.”

This wine goes well with BBQ Pork, Grilled Portabella Mushrooms, Gourmet Cheeses, Lasagna Florentine.

2015 Apothic Red Winemaker’s Blend

apothic-redApothic is a true original. Named for a mysterious place, Apotheca, where vintners stored their most coveted concoctions in 13th century Europe, Apothic blends fuse Old World intrigue with modern sophistication. Winemaker Boyd Morrison lets the character and flavor of each varietal guide the shape of his wines. Apothic offers a portfolio of enchanting blends that are bold in style and taste.

From the winemaker – “In 2015, Apothic Red was crafted from a blend of primarily Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties come together seamlessly for a fruit-driven wine with fresh dark fruit flavors and jammy red fruit notes. The Zinfandel offers bold dark fruit flavors and spicy notes, complemented by the soft mouthfeel of Merlot. The Syrah adds layers of smooth blueberry, while the Cabernet Sauvignon delivers ripe fruit flavors and a firm structure. This decadent blend is framed by hints of oak, vanilla, and mocha.

This bold vintage should be served with wild game meats like; squab, pigeon, dove, pheasant, venison (deer), buffalo, boar and ostrich. Hard, savory cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and Cheddar.

2014 Chateau Souverain Merlot

chateau-souverain-merlotThe story of Chateau Souverain begins in 1944 when J. Leland “Lee” Stewart harvested his first crop of grapes from Howell Mountain vineyard in Napa Valley. From the winemaker – “Chateau Souverain Merlot opens with dark red fruit aromas reminiscent of black cherry, plum, and fresh blueberries complemented by hints of brown spice and baking chocolate. This Merlot finishes with soft acidity and a fruit-driven balance that gives the wine a polished sense of elegance.”

This vintage pairs nicely with rack or leg of lamb, lamb chops, roast pork, pork chops or tenderloin, veal with heartier vegetable and/or bean sauces or mushroom and/or wine sauces. Cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and other hard cheeses as well as cheddar and other savory, firm cheeses.

2013 Bridlewood Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Bridlewood-Estate-Cabernet-SauvignonWhile the high daytime temperatures allow for complete ripening, it’s the low night temperatures that create the thickening in the skins producing the aroma and flavor precursors that winemakers the world over search for. The Sunnybrook Ranch in southeast Paso Robles is situated on rolling hills with southern exposures offering early morning warming, protection from drying afternoon winds and cold nights slowing sugar accumulation, increasing tannins and flavor compounds resulting in extended hang time and delaying harvest until late November!

Three different fermentation techniques were used to enhance different characteristics from each of the vineyards used. The upright pumpover tanks extract aromatics and allow for softer tannins producing a perfumey fruit forward wine. The Rotary fermenter maintains skin contact resulting in a wine with deeper color and richer tannins while the cone-sweep tanks are used to remove pips allowing for more time on the skins without developing bitter components.

From the winemaker – “In the mouth, Bridlewood Cabernet Sauvignon yields a noticeable sweetness upfront from the notes of dark fruit, chocolate and caramelized sugar, but finishes with a surprising firmness. We chose to blend about eight percent Syrah for added layers of red berry flavors and a touch of Petite Sirah to enhance the dark fruit characteristics and create a plush mouthfeel.”

2015 Apothic Dark Red Blend

apothic-dark-red-blendA majority of the grapes in Apothic Dark were selected from Lodi, where the intense sunlight and diverse soil structure create layers of complexity. In the cellar, the grapes for Apothic Dark were fermented at a maximum of 90 degrees to increase the extraction of dark jammy fruit characteristics. A variety of yeasts were used to bring out unique flavors and features from each lot. Following fermentation, the wine was influenced by a variety of oak to add complexity and enhance the coffee and dark chocolate flavors.

From the winemaker – “A medium-bodied, delicious red blend with dark fruit flavors of blueberry and blackberry complemented by notes of coffee and dark chocolate for a rich, yet silky smooth, palate.

This bold vintage should be served with wild game meats like; squab, pigeon, dove, pheasant, venison (deer), buffalo, boar and ostrich. Hard, savory cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and Cheddar.

2011 Bridlewood Estate Blend 175

Bridlewood-Estate-Blend-175At Bridlewood, we like to take our time. We hand select our grapes from California’s vast Central Coast AVA, and we pour our passion into winemaking. Our tasting room sits on a picturesque 105-acre estate which rests on a high bench of ancient seabed, facing the Pacific breezes that meander through the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south and the Purisima Hills and San Raphael Mountains to the north. Days are warm, nights are cool and the abundant sunshine is tempered by wind and fog. This is Central Coast Wine Country at its best.

From the winemaker – “Handcrafted from a blend of Central Coast vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley, Paso Robles and the Edna Valley, we tasted the different lots 175 times before we blended them together, a practice that lent itself to the naming of this wine. A well-balanced expression of the Central Coast region, the final blend is comprised of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Viognier. This full-bodied blend’s dark, jammy fruit flavors and rich, soft tannins are framed nicely by notes of sweet oak and end with a graceful, lingering finish.”
