2012 Beringer Napa Valley Chardonnay

Beringer-Napa-Valley-ChardonnayBeringer’s Napa Valley Chardonnay is a vibrant expression of this beautiful varietal and the depth and complexity of flavor it can exhibit. Winemaker Laurie Hook chooses complementary lots from AVAs in the cool southern end of the valley to craft a wine that is the quintessential expression of Napa Valley terroir. Beringer’s Chardonnay vineyards span several sub-appellations in southern Napa Valley, where fog from the San Pablo Bay works its way north most afternoons during the growing season, cooling the vineyards and allowing for a longer maturation period. The majority of the blend comes from our Big Ranch and Yountville vineyards, located on the valley floor. These vineyards produce Chardonnays with fine fruit flavors and crisp natural acidity.

From the winemaker – “Refreshing, crisp citrus notes accentuate this lively Chardonnay. A medium, rounded mouthfeel is highlighted with flavors of lemon meringue and a pleasing acidity.”

2012 Seaglass Riesling

Every once in a while, a casual stroll on the beach yields an unexpected treasure an unbroken shell, an unusually shaped stone, a piece of sea glass. Occasionally, the same thing happens with wine. Riesling grapes thrive in cooler climates that allow the grapes to ripen slowly and steadily, producing wines that range from bone dry to delectably sweet. Riesling’s high acidity is lusciously balanced by its fragrant floral aromas and sweet fruit flavors. SeaGlass Riesling is a perfect expression of Monterey County, with its cool ocean air, minimal rainfall and long growing season. Enjoy this distinctive Riesling as an aperitif or pair with spicy ribs or fresh lobster.

From the Wine Maker – “Our reductive winemaking style maintains the delicate varietal flavors of peach and pear with honey on the nose. SeaGlass Riesling is fermented in stainless steel tanks at cold temperatures to retain the grape’s natural flavors. The wine is bottled early and sealed with a Stelcap closure to preserve the wine’s freshness.”

This versatile wine is exquisite on its own or can be paired with spicy Asian-inspired dishes or a rich fruit dessert.

2008 Lander-Jenkins Chardonnay

2008 Lander-Jankins ChardonnayFrom the winemaker – “2008 is the inaugural vintage of Lander-Jenkins Chardonnay and shows why this is the most popular variety in the U.S. Produced from carefully selected vineyards, cooler sites give us a wine with crisp acidity and bright fruit. Fragrant aromas of pineapple, lemon zest, orange zest, dried apricot, and vanilla. A rich, luscious mouth feels with flavors of Bosc pear, apricot, peach, French vanilla, and a long creamy finish.”

We have read reviews that this wine pairs nicely with Appetizers such as; crab cakes, escargots that are sautéed with garlic, chicken or goose liver pate’s & cheese puffs. Cream style cheeses like cottage, cream cheese, or fromage blanc, mozzarella, semi-hard cheeses like mild Cheddar, Fontina, Jarlsberg, Swiss or Gouda, soft rind cheeses like Brie.

2012 Bridlewood Estate Monterey County Chardonnay

bridlewood-estate-monterey-county-chardonnayProximity to the Pacific Ocean gives Monterey County the cool, foggy climate that is ideal for growing Chardonnay grapes. Typically, bud break begins several weeks earlier and harvest ends several weeks later in Monterey County than in other Central Coast growing regions. This extra month of time on the vine allows the grapes to develop a crisp, bright acidity and lush tropical flavors. Monterey County houses the significant Monterey AVA, which includes nine sub-regions, united by the cooling influence of Monterey Bay.

From the Wine Maker – “Our Bridlewood Monterey County Chardonnay displays juicy tropical and floral notes mixed with hints of vanilla and spice. Flavors of mandarin orange, lime and pippin apple give way to clover honey and toasted sugar notes. With age, tropical caramel aromas will develop beautifully in this wine.”

Enjoy with Halibut, Mahi Mahi, Monkfish, Red Snapper, Rock cod, Salmon, Sea Bass, Shark, Sole, Swordfish, Tilapia, Trout and Tuna saute’ed, grilled, roasted or baked with or without sauces.

2012 Groth Sauvignon Blanc

grtoh-sauvignon-blancAll of the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon was whole cluster pressed. Whole cluster pressing gives us juice of incredibly high fruitiness and softness. After pressing and settling, 70% of the juice was moved to small oak barrels where it was put through a long, cool fermentation. Within two weeks, the wine fermented to dryness and the wines were allowed to age “sur lie” for a total of five months in the small oak barrels. These barrels are experienced (4-8 years old) and completely inert. This pressing, fermentation and aging program adds rich complexity to the aromas and flavors.

From the winemaker – “Our 2012 Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in various microclimates of the Napa Valley. The warmer Napa Valley microclimates give us grapes that result in wines with a lush, full melon/citrus character in the aroma and in the flavor. The cooler Napa Valley fruit provides a solid, crisp backbone that gives the wine an exciting liveliness that balances the rich creaminess from “sur lie” aging.

2011 Altadonna Pinot Grigio

The area referred to as the “Tre Venezie” encompasses a vast territory in northern Italy, including part of the Trentino region, as well as the entirety of the Veneto and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions. Protected to the north by the Alps, the area is well-ventilated by the warm, gentle breezes off the Adriatic Sea. Pinot Grigio thrives in this unique terrain. Italian white-wine making was revolutionized in this region through cold fermentation, the selection of yeasts, and densely planted vineyards.

From the Wine Maker – “Abundant aromas of white peaches and ripe grapefruit make up the bouquet. This is a vibrant wine with a crisp, refreshing acidity and mineral notes that balance the ample body and texture.”

This Pinot Grigio makes an excellent aperitif wine. It pairs well with vegetable hors d’oeuvres and other lighter fare, including salads.

2012 Maso Canali Pinot Grigio Trentino

For more than 500 years, the Maso Canali Estate has cultivated exceptional wine grapes by hand in the heart of Trentino, Italy – the historic home of Pinot Grigio. Today, Maso Canali is the culmination of dedicated winegrowers and artisans who use a unique winemaking method to craft a Pinot Grigio of extraordinary depth and flavor. The fruit from this vineyard is so exclusive, it is believed that centuries ago armed guards watched over the vines day and night.

From the winemaker – “Our Maso Canali Pinot Grigio displays a brilliant pale golden color indicative of its crisp, citrus aromas and floral notes. Ripe nectarine and light citrus flavors are enhanced by a rich mouthfeel that is achieved from drying our grapes on racks.”

Enjoy as an  aperitif or with salads, grilled chicken and seafood.

2011 BackHouse Pinot Grigio

back-house-pinot-grigioIn 1994, Roy and Rachael Cecchetti purchased a two and a half-acre parcel in the Sonoma Valley, one mile east of the Plaza. On that parcel, situated next to the grand willow tree and the natural spring fed pond, was an old backhouse. Through some research of the property, it was discovered that the old backhouse was once home to vintners, writers, artists and those who craved the solitude and enjoyment of nature. Backhouse wines were created to bring these memories back to life for a new generation.

From the Wine Maker – “pale straw in color with complex flavors of fruits and herbs. Round and full, this wine can be enjoyed with a variety of foods such as salads and poultry dishes.”

Try with Shellfish like scallops, clams, mussels or raw oysters.  Also shrimp with any Thai or spicy Asian sauces.

2010 Martin Codax Albarino

In the local Gallego language of Galicia in Northwest Spain, the name Rías Baixas means “the lower fjords, referring to the narrow fingers of deep water that stretch far inland. The white Albariño grape thrives in this region of rains and mists. Locally, Albariño is called “the wine of the sea” (and is, unsurprisingly, a perfect match for seafood).

From the Wine Maker – “Produced under the stringent rules of the Rías Baixas Denominación de Origen (DO), Martín Códax Albariño is thoroughly food friendly, and designed to be consumed young. This is an aromatic wine, elegant, dry and crisp on the finish. The key aromatic and flavor notes are pear, passion fruit and apple. Acidity is bright and integrates well with aromatic elements into a balanced whole. Albariño stands on its own as an aperitif but reaches its glory stage when matched with food. This is not only because of the firm acidity, but also because of the wine’s mouth-engaging fullness. Seafood, poultry, light salads, and lightly sauced pastas are only a few of the many possibilities.”

Best paired with seafood like, grilled or sautéed abalone, fried calamari, clams steamed, boiled or in a cream or white wine sauce, crab, lobster grilled, steamed or boiled, lobster Newberg or Thermidor, mussels steamed or in white wine sauce, oysters poached or grilled on the half-shell, Oysters Rockefeller, shrimp fried or grilled, scallops fried or grilled and deep-fried soft-shell crab.
