2012 Groth Sauvignon Blanc

grtoh-sauvignon-blancAll of the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon was whole cluster pressed. Whole cluster pressing gives us juice of incredibly high fruitiness and softness. After pressing and settling, 70% of the juice was moved to small oak barrels where it was put through a long, cool fermentation. Within two weeks, the wine fermented to dryness and the wines were allowed to age “sur lie” for a total of five months in the small oak barrels. These barrels are experienced (4-8 years old) and completely inert. This pressing, fermentation and aging program adds rich complexity to the aromas and flavors.

From the winemaker – “Our 2012 Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in various microclimates of the Napa Valley. The warmer Napa Valley microclimates give us grapes that result in wines with a lush, full melon/citrus character in the aroma and in the flavor. The cooler Napa Valley fruit provides a solid, crisp backbone that gives the wine an exciting liveliness that balances the rich creaminess from “sur lie” aging.

2013 Hess Select Chardonnay

Hess-Select-ChardonnayThis vintage will be remembered for its long, cool growing season and the absence of excessive heat events, which allowed for ripe flavors to develop on the vine without excessive sugar accumulation. The resulting wines show an elegant balance of fruit and acidity with lower alcohol.

From the winemaker – “Aromas of pear and citrus, highlighting lemon and lime, are followed on the  palate with pineapple and tropical fruit flavors. Medium bodied and refreshing,  a subtle oak toast balances acidity, resulting in a wine crafted in a modern, fruit-forward  style, wonderful to enjoy on its own as an apéritif, or with a wide array of  dishes across many cuisines.”

This wine’s natural acidity complements tangy, spicy foods and shows well with the richness of creamier dishes. Enjoy with Asian chicken salad, grilled tuna with melted anchovy butter and lemon, or a creamy pasta dish with Portobello mushrooms.

2010 Dry Creek Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Dry-Creek-Vineyard-Sauvignon-Blanc“A solid Sauvignon Blanc, dry, crisp and rich, with lime, green apple, kiwi, green melon and sweet vanilla flavors. And then there’s that tangy minerality that makes it so racy. There’s no oak apparent anywhere, making the fruit star. What a great restaurant wine, and production was nearly 7,000 cases, making it relatively easy to find. Editors Choice.” —  Wine Enthusiast

From the winemaker – This incredible Sauvignon Blanc displays the excellent cool climate characters of the vintage. At first swirl, vibrant lemon grass, citrus peel, and pineapple aromas leap from the glass. Several more minutes of airing display wonderful nuances of orange zest and delicate floral characters. On the palate, the wine is zesty and full of energy repeating the aromatic themes of lemon grass and lemon verbena along with underlying tropical fruit richness. The finish is full flavored and balanced ending with juicy, mouth-watering acidity.

2012 Maso Canali Pinot Grigio Trentino

For more than 500 years, the Maso Canali Estate has cultivated exceptional wine grapes by hand in the heart of Trentino, Italy – the historic home of Pinot Grigio. Today, Maso Canali is the culmination of dedicated winegrowers and artisans who use a unique winemaking method to craft a Pinot Grigio of extraordinary depth and flavor. The fruit from this vineyard is so exclusive, it is believed that centuries ago armed guards watched over the vines day and night.

From the winemaker – “Our Maso Canali Pinot Grigio displays a brilliant pale golden color indicative of its crisp, citrus aromas and floral notes. Ripe nectarine and light citrus flavors are enhanced by a rich mouthfeel that is achieved from drying our grapes on racks.”

2010 Vogelzang “Birdsong” Sauvignon Blanc

The Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in neutral Chardonnay Oak for 10 months from harvest to bottling in June of the following year. The vineyard chooses to use wild yeast in the white wines because each yeast carries with its own nuances and flavors. The texture of the wine is increased through this process. The Vogelzang Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is an Estate Wine, taken from the mature, planted in 1998. The grapes in this Sauvignon Blanc are harvested from two different blocks of different clones. It is made up of 75% Sauvignon Blanc 1 and 25% Sauvignon Blanc Musque. The Sauvignon Blanc 1 clone contributes the minerality and the Musque clone the more floral, light tones. The whites do not go through malolactic and are filtered before bottling.

From the winemaker – “The Birdsong Sauvignon Blanc is all about fun. We have some exciting young Sauvignon Blanc vineyard blocks that show great promise and are providing us with fruit offering fresh aromatics of spring flowers, bright citrus, and flinty minerality. We have departed a bit from our traditional winemaking by using some tank fermentations that preserve the youthful fruit and keep the palate light and approachable.”
