2015 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Unoaked Chardonnay

Columbia-Crest-Grand-Estates-Unoaked-Chardonnay

Spring temperatures in Eastern Washington started off relatively cool but rose quickly, and the region soon settled in to a more typical weather pattern. Summer was predictably warm, without any prolonged excessive heat events, with temperatures rarely breaking 100° Fahrenheit. Late summer and early fall brought on slightly cooler daytime highs and a significant diurnal shift, a pattern that continued well into October. A few sporadic rain showers in mid-to-late October were quickly dissipated by persistent winds and had no effect on the harvest.

Overall the 2012 harvest was outstanding; the white wines are flavorful with beautiful natural acidity.

From the winemaker – “The Grand Estates Unoaked Chardonnay is a light-bodied wine that reveals a pure expression of the varietal. The wine displays aromas of lemon seed, green mangoes and orange blossoms. On the palate, layers of citrus fruit flavors combine with lively acidity, creating a refreshing style of Chardonnay.”

Great with green salads, cheeses, fish with citrus.

2013 Martin Ray Chardonnay

Martin-Ray-ChardonnayWe picked the grapes at the peak of ripeness between September 8th and October 14th. We gently pressed the fruit, cold-settled the juice for two days, and then racked it to French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. We then fermented it using indigenous yeast. The wine has a moderate oak influence – it underwent full malolactic fermentation, which added a rich, creamy mouthfeel, yet maintained some of the more delicate floral aromas.

From the Wine Maker – “Perfectly balanced aromas of baked apple, creamy vanilla yogurt, citrus, tropical toasted coconut and floral notes delight the nose and continue as flavors in the juicy, round mouth.”

Pair this rich, refreshing Chardonnay with light fish dishes, a variety of salads and mild cheeses.

2010 Martin Codax Albarino

In the local Gallego language of Galicia in Northwest Spain, the name Rías Baixas means “the lower fjords, referring to the narrow fingers of deep water that stretch far inland. The white Albariño grape thrives in this region of rains and mists. Locally, Albariño is called “the wine of the sea” (and is, unsurprisingly, a perfect match for seafood).

From the Wine Maker – “Produced under the stringent rules of the Rías Baixas Denominación de Origen (DO), Martín Códax Albariño is thoroughly food friendly, and designed to be consumed young. This is an aromatic wine, elegant, dry and crisp on the finish. The key aromatic and flavor notes are pear, passion fruit and apple. Acidity is bright and integrates well with aromatic elements into a balanced whole. Albariño stands on its own as an aperitif but reaches its glory stage when matched with food. This is not only because of the firm acidity, but also because of the wine’s mouth-engaging fullness. Seafood, poultry, light salads, and lightly sauced pastas are only a few of the many possibilities.”

Best paired with seafood like, grilled or sautéed abalone, fried calamari, clams steamed, boiled or in a cream or white wine sauce, crab, lobster grilled, steamed or boiled, lobster Newberg or Thermidor, mussels steamed or in white wine sauce, oysters poached or grilled on the half-shell, Oysters Rockefeller, shrimp fried or grilled, scallops fried or grilled and deep-fried soft-shell crab.

2009 MontGras Reserva Sauvignon Blanc

This Sauvignon Blanc is fresh, with nice cut to the lime, pippin apple and savory herb notes. Stays bright and racy on the finish.

From the Wine Maker – “Loaded with grapefruit, passion fruit and figs combined with nice fresh grass and asparagus notes. Intense and attractive. The flavors are Deep and intense citric fruit and melon. It not only has freshness, but also volume and a nice texture.”

Delicious with seafood, sushi, sashimi and grilled vegetables.
