2014 Meiomi Chardonnay

Meiomi Chardonnay comes from California, USA.  What’s most notable about this wine is that the Chardonnay grapes are sourced from three different counties. 37% comes from Monterey County, 36% from Sonoma County and 27% from Santa Barbara County. Meiomi does this to achieve “the best expression of their respective appellations…”

From the winemaker – “Smooth, opulent layers of lemon peel and stone fruit are heightened by sweet smells of crème brûlée, butterscotch, baked apple, shortbread, roasted marshmallow, and spices. The mid-palate is fleshy and rich, followed by a clean, mineral finish.”

This wine is best served with white meats, scallops, Hard cheeses, fish, chicken, BBQ.

2010 Liberty School Chardonnay

The majority of Liberty School Chardonnay comes from one of the best stretches of Chardonnay country on the Central Coast—two growers in the cool-climate Santa Lucia Highlands, located on the west side of the Salinas Valley in Monterey County. Some of the most acclaimed Chardonnays in California come from that area, and Liberty School’s grapes get, as they should, first-class treatment all the way. The Chardonnay matures in a 50/50 mix of French and American oak, 10% of it new, for seven to nine months. The final blend is put together and bottled in August, just before the next harvest. The result is a wine full of fruit, full of youth, and unmistakably Chardonnay.

From the winemaker – “2010 Liberty School Chardonnay has a brilliant pale-lemon color and delicate scents of assorted citrus fruit and freshly sliced Granny Smith apples. A zesty acidity seamlessly coalesces with the wine’s refreshingly sumptuous flavors of lime, apples, butterscotch and pie crust. Excellent structure and balance lead to a long and clean finish.”

Liberty School Chardonnay is an excellent companion to a wide variety of food and preparation techniques including grilled poultry, roasted pork, sweet or spicy fruit chutney, and soft-ripening cheeses.

2011 District 7 Chardonnay

district-7-chardonnayUpon arrival at the winery, the grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed, chilled, and racked clean to a refrigerated stainless steel tank.  The juice is slowly fermented at a cool temperature to enhance the varietal aromatics.  They strive for a rich yet refreshing flavor profile, achieved through a combination of stainless steel and oak fermentation.  The result is a fresh and vibrant wine that allows the natural flavor of the grape to shine.

From the winemaker – “Each vintage, we strive to craft a Chardonnay that strikes a perfect balance between rich and refreshing. Through the judicious use of oak, we seek to complement, not detract from, the gorgeous tropical fruit flavors that are the hallmark of District 7. Our 2011 vintage has aromas of tropical fruit and butterscotch that lead into a lively blend of pear, pineapple and citrus flavors.”

The chardonnay is a versatile wine with food, pairing particularly well with grilled seafood, roast chicken, or your favorite salad.

2009 Charles Krug Carneros Chardonnay

From the winemaker – “The first hint of pear nectar in our Chardonnay expands to aromas of brown sugar and butterscotch then segues into flavors of lemon zest, guava and chewy apricot. Firm, mineral undertones embrace crisp, alive acidity for a finely balanced and elegant wine.

2009 started as an ideal growing season but overall rainfall was still below average. Summer weather held mild and steady. October brought a pair of strong storms that dumped enough rain to worry growers. The white fruit, picked before the storms, had bright acid and great flavor concentration. In spite of October’s surprise weather that required fast and furious picking of reds, all signs point to an excellent vintage.”

2008 Taz Chardonnay

This is a moderately aromatic Chard with notes of toasty oak, butter, vanilla, a little pineapple and butterscotch. Dry, full-bodied, medium acidity, with flavors of ripe pear, and a slight touch of minerality and meyer lemon with some creaminess on the finish. The oak gives way on the nose after being open a few minutes and comes through more on the palate.

From the Wine Maker – “The TAZ Santa Barbara Chardonnay is 100 percent barrel fermented in French oak (19% new), and undergoes a partial malolactic fermentation. I like the wine to have nice viscosity and mid-palate weight, but my main goal is to preserve the natural acidity and tropical fruit that has put Santa Barbara County Chardonnay on the map. This wine opens with aromas of lemon chiffon, pineapple and toasted coconut. The wine is creamy, but balanced with a refreshing acidity and lengthy finish.”

This wine is excellent with pasta in light wine sauce like lemon-flavored olive oil or spicy Asian noodles. It also goes well with caesar or green salads with light to medium dressings.
