2014 Chateau Souverain Merlot

chateau-souverain-merlotThe story of Chateau Souverain begins in 1944 when J. Leland “Lee” Stewart harvested his first crop of grapes from Howell Mountain vineyard in Napa Valley. In the years that followed, Stewart used innovation, meticulous standards and his natural gift for winemaking to establish Souverain as one of the great California wineries.

From the winemaker – “Chateau Souverain Merlot opens with dark red fruit aromas reminiscent of black cherry, plum, and fresh blueberries complemented by hints of brown spice and baking chocolate. This Merlot finishes with soft acidity and a fruit-driven balance that gives the wine a polished sense of elegance.”

This vintage pairs nicely with rack or leg of lamb, lamb chops, roast pork, pork chops or tenderloin, veal with heartier vegetable and/or bean sauces or mushroom and/or wine sauces. Cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and other hard cheeses as well as cheddar and other savory, firm cheeses.

2012 Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre

This is one of the wines that has made Allegrini famous throughout the world. The vineyard surrounds Villa della Torre, a splendid masterpiece of Renaissance architecture now owned by the family, and produces a full-bodied red wine that has an ageing potential of at least ten years. The blend is the historic combination of Corvina and Rondinella with the addition of a small quantity of Sangiovese. A small percentage of the harvested grapes are left to dry out until December and then added to the previously vinified fresh grapes. The result is a velvety, well-balanced red wine that proffers mature, pulpy fruit.

From the Wine Maker – “Aromas of dried earth, dried raspberry and blueberry. Full body, chewy tannins and a fresh, bright finish. Lively and delicious.”

Easily pairs with various Italian dishes, above all risottos, especially those flavored with saffron, porcini mushrooms and pork; classic dishes such as pasta with amatriciana and carbonara sauces, baked lasagna, gnocchi with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts; grilled meats and roasts. This wine also excels when matched with Parma ham and fine-cured zibello pork loin, as well as medium-matured cheeses, especially parmigiano reggiano, pecorino and Monte Veronese.

2011 Ghost Pines Red Blend

Ghost-Pines-Red-BlendNamed after the Ghost Pines Vineyard purchased in 1964 by Napa’s historic Louis M. Martini Winery, Ghost Pines produces unique and contemporary wines from some of California’s premier appellations. Winemaker Michael Eddy enjoys the freedom to choose the best grapes he can find, regardless of AVA. Inspired by the free-form character of its namesake tree, Ghost Pines embodies the progressive spirit of California winemaking – “excellence has no boundaries.”

From the Wine Maker – “Our Ghost Pines 2011 Red Blend showcases the complexity and balance that the right combination of the right grapes can achieve. The Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in this blend act as the stoic Dr. Jekyll, while the Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Sangiovese are a classic Hyde: assertive, aggressive and maybe even a little disturbed. Aromas of blueberry and blackberry pie are framed nicely by salted caramel, spice and truffle notes. Rich and full-bodied, this blend offers chewy tannins and a long, luscious finish.”

This wine is best served with roast beef, steak, steak prepared with dark and hearty sauces or red wine sauces, beef stew, or short ribs. Hard cheeses like Parmigiano or romano and firm cheeses like cheddar.

2010 B Side Red Blend

B-Side-Red-BlendB Side wines tell the story of the flip-side of Napa Valley. Nestled in rural areas and rolling hills along the eastern edge of the valley, these vineyards are just a few miles from the glamorous, high-priced wineries featured along Highway 29. The eastern side of Napa Valley includes areas such as Pope Valley, Chiles Valley, Wooden Valley, Stags Leap District and lower Calistoga. Vines in these areas are grown in thin volcanic soils, which yield smaller, more concentrated fruit.

From the winemaker – “In crafting the 2010 B Side Napa Valley Red Wine Blend, winemaker Greg Kitchens used five different varietals from more than seven sub-appellations within Napa Valley. The wine opens with a heady bouquet of black cherries, dried plums, blackberries and peat moss. One’s first sip is greeted by a flavorful cacophony of black currants, dried blueberries, and Blackstrap molasses with hints of black pepper and toasted coconut emerging on the finish. This full-bodied wine is lush and rich with finely integrated tannins, yet it also shows impeccable balance. If Cabernet Sauvignon represents the “A” side of Napa Valley, then this artfully blended wine demonstrates just how great the “B” side can be.”

2005 Stella Maris Red Wine

Stella-Maris-Red-WineStella Maris is Latin for Star of the Sea. With the lots that don’t make our Columbia Valley and Walla Walla Merlots, our winemaker follows the Bordeaux tradition of making a ‘declassified’ wine, and creates Stella Maris.

From the Wine Maker – “This medium-bodied, approachable wine opens with aromatics of blueberry and raspberry. Each varietal in the final blend contributes concentrated fruit and
layers of flavors including blueberry, white pepper, bright red fruit, and a bit of orange zest. Enjoy!”

2012 Gascon Malbec

Don Miguel Gascón Malbec hails from Mendoza, a mountainous province at the foot of the Andes Mountains, along the western edge of Argentina. Regarded as the most important wine-producing province in Argentina, Mendoza accounts for more than 80% of Argentine winemaking.

By selecting grapes from vineyards at varying elevations throughout Mendoza’s high valleys, winemakers achieve superb balance in the finished wine. The high altitude places the vineyards under intense sunlight, which translates into fruit with extraordinary flavor and aromatic expressions.

From the winemaker – “Our 2012 Malbec opens with intense aromas of blackberry, plum and a hint of mocha. Dark fruit flavors intertwine with notes of spice, licorice and chocolate to create a magnificent, full-bodied Malbec. Round tannins and a plush mouthfeel lead the way to a long, velvety finish.”

Gascón Malbec pairs well with grilled red meats, wild game, pasta dishes and chocolate molten dessert.

2011 HandCraft Petite Sirah

HandCraft Artisan Collection wines celebrate the California home and Italian heritage of third generation winery proprietor Cheryl Indelicato. She gives classic grape varieties her own personal touch by adding a playful dash of Italian and heritage varietals as a nod to the vineyard-to-barrel field selections that found their place daily at the Italian table when she was growing up. The result is distinctive, fruit forward wines that are easy to enjoy and share with others.

From the winemaker – “Jammy fruit from beginning to end—starting with aromas of blueberry pie, nutmeg and pepper. In the mouth, flavors expand to include boysenberry, plum, blueberry and spice. This full bodied wine has a bold tannin structure and balanced acidity that lead to a long finish. This big wine is anything but “petite”.

Embolden your sense of taste and pair with mixed grill and slow roasted short ribs.

2009 Project Paso Old Vine Zinfandel

Project-Paso-Old-Vine-ZinfandelFor over 30 years, three generations of Sebastianis have partnered with Sam Balakian, a local Paso Robles grape grower, to craft high-quality varietal wines for California appellation blends.  Project Paso is their effort to share Paso Robles’ rustic character. What started out as a small partnership has now come to fruition with these wines. To pay homage to all the work their families have done over the past three decades, they felt it only proper to keep the name “Project Paso.”

From the Wine Maker – “There is a vast complexity of flavors and aromas in this wine, driven by the unique Paso Robles soils and the blend of three Zinfandel vineyards. The nose opens up with dried fruit and concentrated blueberry aromas, with white pepper, warm Indian spices, and a touch of gaminess rounding out the background. This wine is similarly complex on the palate, with chocolate-covered cherry flavors balanced by old vine spice and a hint of sweet cigar. Earthy, medium-bodied, with a touch of minerality, this varietally correct Zinfandel gets its depth from Paso’s red soils. Light, dusty tannins frame the finish, with hints of espresso bean and sour cherry.”

This Zinfandel comes from three different vineyards in Paso Robles, and is blended with a single-vineyard Petite Sirah for added color and texture. Picked ripe after a very cool growing season, the resulting balance and lower alcohol make for a great food pairing with chicken mole enchiladas, Mexican spice rubbed pork shoulder, or almost anything off of the barbecue, served with homemade baked beans.
