2013 Canvasback Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Home to some of Washington State’s most celebrated vineyards, Red Mountain is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal southwest-facing slopes and significant day and nighttime temperature swings, this small but highly prized area in Eastern Washington produces exceptional wines. Named for the Canvasback duck, which is native to the Pacific Flyway, this wine was crafted from grapes cultivated by some of Red Mountain’s finest growers. With Canvasback, our aim is to express and develop the depth, structure and sophistication that define wines from this young and exciting appellation.

From the winemaker – “A gorgeous expression of Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine begins with effusive aromas of blackberry, marionberry and black cherry. As it evolves, layers of mocha, cinnamon and clove reveal themselves, as well as hints of sarsaparilla and black licorice, all of which frame the fruit, while adding depth and nuance. The palate is supple and juicy, with a voluminous texture, hedonistic black fruit and a complex French oak-inspired spice box note that carries through to a long and sophisticated finish.”

Great with beef, duck or veal dishes or a bleu cheese. Other flavors that go well with this bottle are dark chocolate, mustard, paprika, rosemary, thyme, cloves, ginger and nutmeg.

2008 Colosi Sicilia Rosso

Made from 100% Nero d’Avola, Colosi 2007 is a great, rich and generous everyday wine from Sicily. It has a ruby color with an expressive nose, quite intense with complex aromas of plum and dark cherries. Dry, medium bodied and well-balanced, the palate is fairly dense and earthy with ripe fruit flavors mixed with hints of spice. The overall profile of the wine is pleasant, friendly and versatile.

From the winemaker – “The color of this Sicilian gem is an intense dark ruby-red. The nose consists of aromas of black licorice, black currant, tar, tea leaf, and tobacco, which all develop into a fantastic and very complex bouquet while in the glass. Soft and ripe flavors of cherry, plum, and sweet tobacco followed into a nice smooth finish.”

Enjoy with Pasta with Meat, Bolognese or ragu sauces, meat lasagna or hard cheeses like Parmigiano or Romano and firm cheeses like Cheddar.

2009 Château Les Grands Marechaux Premières Côtes de Blaye

Chateau-Les-Grands-Marechaux-Bordeaux90 Pts Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate “An absolutely outrageous sleeper of the vintage, the tiny yields of 26 hectoliters per hectare produced wine made from a blend of 84% Merlot and the rest the two Cabernets. Natural alcohol is a whopping 14.5%, and it will come as no surprise that Stephane Derenoncourt is the consultant. Deep plum/ruby, with a big, sweet kiss of mulberry, black cherry jam, licorice and incense, this ripe, fleshy, medium to full-bodied wine has terrific fruit on the attack, mid-palate and finish. This unctuous 2009, which often gets a recommendation from me, is the best Les Grands Marechaux I have ever tasted.”

From the Wine Maker – “The 2009 Bordeaux presented flavors of black jam confiture, cola and licorice and velvety mouthfeel. This small production red (2500 cases produced) is aged in 20% new oak and the grapes are hand-picked. Owned by Guillaume Touton, who has been importing Bordeaux into the United States for over 30 years, the Les Grands Marechaux estate has sandy clay soils in the appellation of Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux.”

Great with rack or leg of lamb, roast pork, or tenderloin. Also try with Parmigiano, Romano and other hard cheeses as well as cheddar and other savory, firm cheeses.
