2013 Adele Chardonnay

The Adele Chardonnay comes from a 10-acre block in the well-known Vine Hill Road region of Russian River, source of some of the best Chardonnay produced in California. It is fermented two-thirds in new and used French Oak barrels, while the rest is fermented in stainless steel to maintain the bright freshness of the fruit. During its 8 month elevage, the wine sees some batonnage, adding richness and texture. The result is a full-bodied but not overblown crowd-pleaser.

From the winemaker – “2013 Adele Chardonnay Russian River a bright yellow color of medium intensity along with greenish reflections. On the nose the wine offers a medium intensity of vanilla, ripe pineapple and toffee. There might be a hint of orange rind. On the palate he wine is dry, full-bodied with mouth-watering acidity. There is a medium(-) intensity of flavors similar to the nose. The vanilla and pineapple are dominant with a hint of tangerine. The finish is clean with a medium length of lingering pineapple. There is a pleasant slight sweet attack on medium intensity at the end.”

This wine is best served with white meats, scallops, Hard cheeses, fish, chicken, BBQ.

2013 Sterling Vineyards Napa County Sauvignon Blanc

sterling-vineyards-napa-county-sauvignon-blancLike other Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc grows well in Napa Valley. Rocky, alluvial soils and warm days balanced by cool evenings create the perfect setting for the varietal, encouraging complex aroma and flavor development.

From the winemaker – “Our Sauvignon Blanc arrived at the winery with vibrant, rich flavors. To harness that, we pressed the grapes whole cluster, gently extracting the highest quality juice for better flavors and mouthfeel. A majority of the fruit was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel. To build a lovely viscous texture and balance, we barrel fermented five percent of the wine in neutral barrels and stirred the lees in both tank and barrel.”

Enjoy this wine with light pasta dishes, grilled seafood or roast chicken.

2013 William Hill Centrial Coast Pinot Noir

william-hill-centrial-coast-pinot-noirWith roots deeply anchored in the Napa Valley, William Hill Estate crafts luxury Chardonnay and Bordeaux varietal wines from the undiscovered vineyards of California’s most celebrated regions. Beginning with William Hill Estate’s 140-acre benchland vineyard near the Silverado Trail, Winemaker Mark Williams turns to the hidden corners of southern Napa, the North Coast and the Central Coast to create a unique collection of rich, expressive wines.

From the winemaker – “Deep and rich, our William Hill Central Coast Pinot Noir opens with aromas of black cherry, toasted oak spice and lavender. On the palate, enjoy ripe flavors of raspberry and boysenberry. A firm acidity and smooth mouthfeel lead to a lingering finish.”

Pairs well with cornish game hens, duck or turkey prepared in rich, hearty or heavy sauces or hard cheeses like Parmigiano or Romano and firm cheeses like Cheddar.

2013 Bridlewood Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Bridlewood-Estate-Cabernet-SauvignonWhile the high daytime temperatures allow for complete ripening, it’s the low night temperatures that create the thickening in the skins producing the aroma and flavor precursors that winemakers the world over search for. The Sunnybrook Ranch in southeast Paso Robles is situated on rolling hills with southern exposures offering early morning warming, protection from drying afternoon winds and cold nights slowing sugar accumulation, increasing tannins and flavor compounds resulting in extended hang time and delaying harvest until late November!

Three different fermentation techniques were used to enhance different characteristics from each of the vineyards used. The upright pumpover tanks extract aromatics and allow for softer tannins producing a perfumey fruit forward wine. The Rotary fermenter maintains skin contact resulting in a wine with deeper color and richer tannins while the cone-sweep tanks are used to remove pips allowing for more time on the skins without developing bitter components.

From the winemaker – “In the mouth, Bridlewood Cabernet Sauvignon yields a noticeable sweetness upfront from the notes of dark fruit, chocolate and caramelized sugar, but finishes with a surprising firmness. We chose to blend about eight percent Syrah for added layers of red berry flavors and a touch of Petite Sirah to enhance the dark fruit characteristics and create a plush mouthfeel.”

2013 Canvasback Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Home to some of Washington State’s most celebrated vineyards, Red Mountain is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal southwest-facing slopes and significant day and nighttime temperature swings, this small but highly prized area in Eastern Washington produces exceptional wines. Named for the Canvasback duck, which is native to the Pacific Flyway, this wine was crafted from grapes cultivated by some of Red Mountain’s finest growers. With Canvasback, our aim is to express and develop the depth, structure and sophistication that define wines from this young and exciting appellation.

From the winemaker – “A gorgeous expression of Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine begins with effusive aromas of blackberry, marionberry and black cherry. As it evolves, layers of mocha, cinnamon and clove reveal themselves, as well as hints of sarsaparilla and black licorice, all of which frame the fruit, while adding depth and nuance. The palate is supple and juicy, with a voluminous texture, hedonistic black fruit and a complex French oak-inspired spice box note that carries through to a long and sophisticated finish.”

Great with beef, duck or veal dishes or a bleu cheese. Other flavors that go well with this bottle are dark chocolate, mustard, paprika, rosemary, thyme, cloves, ginger and nutmeg.

2013 La Lastra Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG

Vernaccia di San Gimignano represents the “Tuscany in White”, a century-old wine and the first DOC of Italy. Great care is taken to harvest the Vernaccia only when it has achieved complete physiological ripeness. The harvest is done entirely by hand and careful selection takes place in the vineyards before the grapes are transported to the winery on dry ice in order to preserve freshness until pressing.

From the Wine Maker – “Pale golden-tinged straw-yellow. Orange zest, lime, minerals and a floral note on the perfumed nose. Sneaky concentration of ripe stone fruit flavors and vivacious, nicely integrated acidity give this wine an attractive sweet/tart aspect. Finishes crisp and long.”

The wine is delicious paired with delicately boiled white fish or fish prepared in light sauces, such as lemon butter. Raw, crisp or steamed vegetable dishes.
