The intense bouquet is reminiscent of spices and ripe fruit. Rich and full bodied on the palate with intense fruity aromas which give the wine its excellent enduring characteristics. 2009 Avalon Merlot

Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure, this Merlot is made from 88% Merlot, 6% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Petite Verdot.

From the winemaker – “Our 2009 Merlot shows its depth with a rich garnet color. Aromas of juicy boysenberries and cherry pie fill the glass. Crème brulee and brown sugar notes from oak aging compliment the ripe berry aromas. Mountain fruit characteristics show in the intensity of the fruit flavors. The entry enjoys sweet notes of raspberry and cherry with a finish of jammy boysenberry preserves. The oak notes of chocolate and wood smoke pair with and compliment the rich fruit layers. Refined tannins support this balanced wine that doesn’t show the typical alcohol component found in many Merlots. As the wine develops in the glass, one may enjoy ongoing berry notes, a touch of allspice evolving in the middle, while the wine continues to lengthen on the finish. Smooth, silky and profound berry flavors confirm this wine’s birthplace as Napa Valley.”

This vintage pairs nicely with rack or leg of lamb, lamb chops, roast pork, pork chops or tenderloin, veal with heartier vegetable and/or bean sauces or mushroom and/or wine sauces. Cheeses like Parmigiano, Romano and other hard cheeses as well as cheddar and other savory, firm cheeses.

2009 Chalone Vineyard Chardonnay

While the grapes for Chalone Vineyard Estate come from their high mountain estate, the grapes for the Monterey County wines come from distinct vineyards in the 75-mile long Salinas Valley, which begins in Monterey Bay and runs southeastward. Ancient volcanoes, active faults and tectonic plate movement created the Santa Lucia and Gavilan Mountain ranges, which flank the valley. The mountains form a wind tunnel, drawing cool ocean breezes off the Pacific Ocean into the valley. The cool air causes the vines to shut down and delays ripening of the grapes, leading to a longer growing season and hang time that results in intense fruit flavors. Soils in the valley are varied and include compositions of gravelly loam, sand, decomposed granite and limestone. This combination of well-drained soils, early morning fog, warm afternoon sun and cool ocean air make the region ideal.

From the Wine Maker – “In our Chardonnay, bright, fruit-focused flavors keep cadence with sweet essence of oak. Baked pear, Braeburn apple and sweet tangerine are accented by wafts of floral and nutmeg. Well-balanced, the fruit remains bright and crisp, complemented by just enough oak to lend structure and complexity.”

This wine’s versatility makes it pleasant for sipping as well as a perfect complement to sautéed scallops or stuffed chicken breast.

From the Wine Advocate– “The 2009 Malbec Picada 15 (a vineyard designation) was primarily aged in tank with 10% of the wine spending six months in oak. Dark ruby-colored, it delivers a spicy, black cherry and black raspberry perfume. This is followed by a medium-bodied, easygoing wine with ample fruit and no hard edges.”

2009 Black Stallion Nappa Valley Chardonnay

Black-Stallion-Nappa-Valley-ChardonnayThis 2009 Chardonnay was 100% barrel fermented in French Oak. It was stirred weekly and the wine went through partial malolactic fermentation in the barrel. This vintage was sourced from two different areas in the Nappa Valley.

From the Wine Maker – “A wonderfully complex and layered Chardonnay with subtle aromas of citrus blossom, white chocolate, toasted almond and apricot. This wine has a silky smooth texture and full-bodied flavor, balanced with crisp acidity and refined tannins. Notes of pear and white peach add to the rounded fruit flavors which to follow through to a long finish.”

This wine has enough body to pair with Asian ginger pork chops, and would also pair nicely with grilled teriyaki chicken, halibut with a creamy garlic sauce or seafood linguini with a white wine sauce.

2009 Silverado Miller Ranch Sauvignon Blanc

92 percent Sauvignon Blanc, and 8 percent Semillon grapes were used to make this great Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes were harvested at an average sugar of 22.7° Brix. The juice was inoculated with three distinct yeast strains that help release aromas specific to Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks set at 50 – 55 degrees Fahrenheit. To highlight the wine’s intense aromatics the wine did not undergo any malolatic fermentation. The Semillon was blended to enhance the mouthfeel and balance acidity.

From the winemaker – “Intense aromas of lime, grapefruit and orange spiked with ginger and quinine. On the palate, juicy flavors with bright fresh picked tangerine flavors that linger on the finish.

Enjoy with a crab salad, smoked salmon,  or Oysters Au Gratin. Cheeses such as brie, swiss or gouda.

2009 Chateau De La Huste Bordeaux

This blend of 90% Merlot – 10% Cabernet Franc was produced in France at the Chateau De La Huste family estate, owned by the Rulliers since 1860. The Chateau de la Huste’s vines are on one of the highest parts of Saillans. In old french, La Huste means the bump.

The grapes are picked by hand when they are fully ripe and put in baskets. Sorted minutely before and after full destemming. Fermentation in concrete tanks with built-in thermoregulation which guarantees better control of the fermentation process. Long vatting period (3 weeks) for a slow and gentle extraction of the phenolic agents. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. 12 to 15 months in new barrels (having matured 1 or 2 barches of wine). 20% of the barrels are replaced every year and toasting levels are selected for optimum enhancement of our wines’s fruit flavors.

Wine Spectator Review March 2012 Issue – “Subtle tobacco and roasted mesquite notes lead the way, followed by mulled plum and fig fruit and a fleshy but stylish finish that lets the fruit stretch out nicely.”

Great with rack or leg of lamb, lamb chops, roast pork, pork chops or tenderloin, or Parmigiano, Romano and other hard cheeses as well as cheddar and other savory, firm cheeses.

2009 Bisol Crede Prosecco

The wine is made from Glera, Verdiso and Pinot Bianco grapes grown on the steep hills of the Bisol Vineyards. The first two varieties enjoy an ideal habitat in the clay-laden earth with a subsoil of marine sandstone known as “crede” that is common to this part of the countryside. This type of terrain is particular and beneficial to the grapes, which do not suffer from aridity during critical periods but instead become notably enriched with noble acids, varietal aromas and fruitiness.

From the winemaker – “The color is a brilliant, light straw yellow with nuances of green, while the perlage features a myriad of minute and persistent bubbles. The bouquet of wildflowers is suitably intense, fresh and elegant and emanates an extremely agreeable fruitiness. The flavor reflects the fruity bouquet with its scents of apples and pears and the overall harmony is completed by a rich and fine sapidity.”

Best served with a risotto, pasta with vegetables, light fried fish. Great with sushi, sushimi, tempura and Tofu. It is also the ideal Prosecco for preparing the original Bellini.

2009 Conn Creek Herrick Red

Located on Napa Valley’s famed Silverado Trail in the Rutherford district, Conn Creek has built its reputation on its blending expertise, sourcing grapes from nearly all of Napa Valley’s diverse sub-appellations to create wines with layers of depth and complexity. Herrick Red celebrates this tradition with an intriguing blend of classic Bordeaux varieties and a hint of Syrah to spice things up. The result is a rich, flavorful, and satisfying wine.

From the winemaker – “Black Currant, tamarind, dark chocolate, Herbes de Provence and licorice aromas set the background for the full ripe berry and dark plum flavors. The medium bodied tannins provide structure and texture to the juicy, wild blackberry flavors. The finish suggests cocoa powder followed by generous measures of unctuous fruit, cinnamon and sage.”

Best paired with various roast dishes, Spanish stew, mushrooms and grilled meats. Blue fish, rice, short-and medium-cured cheeses.
